麻豆原创 Law Review Hosts Symposium, "The Impact of Race on Youth [In]Justice"

On Friday, February 4, 2022, the 麻豆原创 Law Review hosted its annual symposium titled 鈥淭he Impact of Race on Youth [in]Justice.鈥 Each year the Law Review dedicates its annual symposium to exploring a burgeoning area in the legal field, and several events in recent history have brought to the forefront the issue of race and racism in the legal profession. Almost every sector of the law has and continues to confront racism, but children are uniquely disadvantaged as dependents. Friday鈥檚 symposium sought to explore those questions and shed light on how racism has infiltrated the legal rights of children.

The MLK Birthday Commemoration program is a 23-year tradition at WCL that honors the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.聽 This year the King family asked that instead of just celebrating Dr. King's legacy, to focus on the fight to pass voting rights legislation. Therefore, the program focused on educating our community about pending legislation and highlighting the importance of voting rights at this moment.聽聽

The 麻豆原创 Washington College of Law (麻豆原创WCL) has responded to the Attorney General鈥檚 call to action in a number of important ways.聽聽Student attorneys participating in our Clinical Program have engaged in eviction defense and housing security work聽through our Civil Advocacy Clinic, Community Economic and Equity Development Law Clinic, Gender Justice Clinic, Intellectual Property Clinic, International Human Rights Law Clinic, Criminal Justice Clinic, and Rising for Justice Clinic.聽聽麻豆原创WCL students also have externed with organizations such as Bread for the City and the Washington Legal Clinic for the Homeless, providing countless unpaid hours in support of local anti-eviction direct legal services.聽聽In addition, our聽Office of Public Interest is hosting a 鈥淭each-in on the Eviction Crisis and Housing (In)Justice in DC,鈥澛爁eaturing three 麻豆原创WCL alumna at the forefront of anti-eviction efforts and providing anti-eviction training for 麻豆原创WCL students.聽
